1. Test the Auto-Reverse Feature Monthly
Federal law (UL 325) requires all garage door openers manufactured after 1993 to include an auto-reverse mechanism. Test it monthly by placing a 2×4 board flat on the ground in the door’s path and pressing the close button. The door must reverse within 2 seconds of contacting the board. If it does not, adjust the close-force setting or have the opener serviced immediately. A door that does not reverse properly can trap or crush a child.
